Forest Canopy Knitalong (aka Cat Herding, With Yarn) (aka Or What You Will)

KAL

Lookie here – I’ve got me a button.  The talented yet slightly evil Cookie made this for my very own – isn’t she the bomb??**

Ya’ll know by now that I’m not real big on following rules, so this KAL will be neither rule heavy nor tightly managed.  Here’s the plan:

1.  In spite of apparent confusion over what, exactly, we’re knitting, it’s really very simple.  Forest Canopy is the “official” KAL pattern.   Grab a pattern and some yarn, and cast on sometime in the next week or so.   No need to “sign up” or any such beaurocratic nonsense.   Grab the pretty button if you want, and just knit!

2.  If you’re over Forest Canopy, don’t like it, or whatever, then you can choose Icarus instead.  I’m planning to knit this one as well, but I probably won’t cast on for it for another week or so.

3.  If you’re uber-contrarian, knit whatever shawl you want to – including Flower Basket (*cough*) if you must.  I don’t have a link.  I don’t want to know…

4.  I’ll post on my own progress every now and again – roughly every week.  I’ll tag the posts Knitting w/ Nora so you can find them.  Jump in with comments.  E-mail me guest posts or photos if you want – I’ll gladly post them!

5.  If anyone wants to start a betting pool as to who will finish first, I warn you that Certain People knit really fast.  You might want to do an over under, or bet on a spread, or something.

6.  I don’t have a deadline in mind.  We all have enough stress in our lives.  Just cast on and see what happens.

7.  Finally, I still haven’t settled on yarn for my FC.  I’ll let you know when it happens – it won’t be long.

Have fun!

**The WordPress template I use (Cutline) stubbornly refuses to allow me to post buttons in a sidebar widget.  I can get text, but no images.  If anyone knows any tips or tricks, or an alternative template that might work, give me a jingle, wouldya?

  1. I’ve been thinking about Icarus for April. If I can get my Zetor finished I just may join you!

  2. You’re casting on for icarus in a week or so? Two shawls at once? You don’t fool around!

Just because I love you. You can also check Cookie’s finished knits.

I do have a solution for your WP – put it in your blog roll — you have an option of using a picture associated with it. See my knitty button on my side bar. You can also just stick the address in your sidebar file – like the bad girl knitters also on my sidebar. More help when I return from the big city if you need it.

  3. Let me know when I can send you the Flower Basket pattern, Nora.

For those betting, I am not knitting Forest Canopy. So don’t look at me to ruin the knitting curve. :p

  4. I added the button (without cursing for a change) and I am sorting out which yarn goes with what. By Monday I should be casting on one or another.

  5. I got a semi-reprieve and cast on today. :D

  6. Wait, wait! I’m coming along, too.

  7. WHOOO! The gang’s all here!

  8. Okay, I’ll join. I have never knitted a shawl. I have knitted lace but not a shawl. I have the Forest Canopy pattern too and some yummy yarn.

  9. I’m just being a groupie and knitting unrelated lace projects instead of official, nonofficial, or next choice patterns. Cookie made me. Okay, it was Cookie, Joan and Stacey all ganging up. And making it sound all fun and crap.

  10. I did not!

It was that evil Stacey if it was anyone.

  11. Hmmm. Now that I have the Malabrigo laceweight that Stacy sent me (thanks again, Stacy!) maybe I should join in. But can a brain fried by many too many 1040s handle learning to knit lace? That’s a tough one. However. I just hopped over to MimKnits and bought Icarus. We shall see what happens…

  12. I go for a blog cruise and look what happens. Everybody is talking about Knitting With Nora. Sounds like a really fun challenge. Never knitted lace before but I’m definitely tempted to have a go.
