So many of you have been so amazingly enthusiastic about supporting me in my lace knitting endeavors. Thank you, thank you! This is so much more fun with friends.
Never one to leave well enough alone, I thought I’d venture to enlist your support and participation in a non-knitting activity. I realize this could be a proverbial lead balloon. I got a lot of (virtual) blank looks when I hosted the reading group discussion, and no one but Stacey ventured a guess on my movie meme. Yes, I have learned that this bunch will definitely vote with its feet – but wait – that’s EXACTLY what I’m asking you to do.
I have set a goal of running 100 miles in ten weeks. Yes, that’s lame for people who are “serious” runners. But I’m more of a plodder who happens to run an occasional organized race, so ten miles a week, for me, is sufficiently challenging and more than I generally do unless I’m training for something major.
Here’s where you come in. I’m planning to report in here on my progress (Tag: 100 Miles or Bust) regardless, and maybe I’ll throw in a little health/fitness stuff gleaned from the web or my handy neighbor who happens to be a personal trainer. This would be MUCH MORE FUN if you would JOIN ME.
I don’t care how you travel your miles, or what weekly or monthly goal you set for yourself. Walk, bike, swim, skate, army crawl… it’s totally up to you. But won’t you come along on the journey? It’s spring, it’s good for us, and like lace knitting, exercise is so much more fun with friends!
And no, this is NOT going to turn into the “started at 100 miles, but now it’s 200, in go-carts, with Stacey riding a Harley instead” sort of activity.
Really.

I’m gonna say this is not an April Fools Day joke. I’m in. I walk our wee beastie every bloody morning before dawn. I may not do mileage, but I’ll do time. I love it when someone throws down the gauntlet.

I’m in. I’ve been sporadically running 4-8 miles a week, and now that the weather is getting better, I’d like to be more dedicated. When’s the start date?

I’m a walker, not a runner but I’ll do my best… as with Cindy, maybe not the mileage but definitely the time.

No problem joining you on this one. I’m in. I just so happened to have bought a new pair of running shoes on Sunday. When does the mileage counting start?

Can I ride a cowboy instead? o.O

STAC-ey!!!!
She’s trying to get your blog a PG-13 rating!
I’m terrible at movie quotes and band names, though several of the quotes were familiar and I should have known them — just couldn’t place them right off the bat. Some day I’ll do that meme too, but my favorite movies are so well-known that I don’t think I could pick any obscure quotes.
Various parts of my body do not care to run, but I have just been realizing I need to get serious about exercising. If I walk to work, that’s almost 4 miles round trip.
Problem is, I begrudge the time, and often enough, there is the need for a car on one end or the other (kid transport, usually, and one day a week I have to work at another office which requires a car commute).
But….if I sucked it up and just made the time (and now that it’s [getting] warmer, I could even knit while walking, though I can’t powerwalk nor do lace in that setting), I could do it. And it would be good for me! Sooo — yeah! You’re catching me at a good time! Tomorrow, I’m walking to work.

Staceeeey!!! Darn woman! I guess if she can find a cowboy in that land of hers she can have him. Maybe we can con him into running away from her and she will have to chase him.
I am already running so I’ll join you in your quest. I ran 4 miles today. I have a blog that I keep my workout log–just started it.

I have been thinking about learning to run. Norma posted something about Tatoro or some strange thing (it sounds like the name of some Anime) where you do 20 seconds of activity, then rest 10, for four minutes. I’m pretty sure I can do 20 seconds. At least once…

If Stacey gets a cowboy, I’ll be riding a slaveboy.
I think it’s a great idea, Nora. Sadly, princess does not run. She does cheer from the sidelines, though… as long as she has a cold drink and something to knit while she does it.

I just made a calender and pinned it next to my bike. I’ll have to take a few weeks off but I can start today and see how far I get.

I’m knitting lace for the first time and you want me to exercise?!
Probably a good idea. I’m going to try. At least I’ll try to try.

I run 2mi every other day already. If I’m good. If I’m motivated. My tummy roll is very motivating right now. I’ll join you. I need a buddy. (My sis, Deborah, runs marathons. I hate her. Of course with lots of love.)
Does riding…ahem…cowboys really count?? I could get one. (Mine has owned his boots for 20 years. Wears ‘em every Sunday. Grins.)

It’s a little early in the Spring for me, but I’ll do what I can — and you’re motivating me to push myself beyond my normal lame-o distances. We’ll see!

Hmmm.
I OUGHT to.
No running for me, but walking could happen.
meanwhile, I missed the movie meme… I totally would have tried!

I’m in on the 100 miles. Does the 10 miles I walked yesterday in Vegas count? If I can patch more sore feet up and go for a run tomorrow I will be up 3 miles.

Oh you totally sound like me! I run a bit, the longest race I’ve done is a 10K. I will do this challenge, I both run and walk (I walk to the subway in the morning-maybe 2m-when I can, run at most 3x a week) 100 miles in ten weeks is a great goal for me!
