Adamas
I’m learning that knitting projects seem to have minds of their own. We think we “should” be working on something, but other projects call more loudly. Working a project out of a sense of duty is the quickest path to killing the joy.
I started this shawl last July, and it came out in bursts of activity over the months since. Recently it spoke to me quite firmly, and when I finally gave up on the idea that I was meant to use every inch of the yarn dedicated to the project, and simply knit the pattern as written, it was a very pleasant finish.
This is Adamas, by Miriam Felton. Knit of 550ish yards of the most gorgeous laceweight merino in the Oceans colorway from the Looped Neighborhood Collective in Buffalo, according to the ball band on the skein given to me by the lovely Joan. Size US5 KnitPicks Options circs. Blocked size is 32 inches down the spine and 64 across the top. The pattern is faultless – easy to follow, intuitive, and error-free.
Joan is truly a woman of faith, because she gave me that yarn before I had ever knit one stitch of lace, and I was completely freaked out by its fineness, as well as the idea of reading lace charts.
Happy Monday, all!

p.s. Thanks for your responses to my question about the feed issue. I have concluded that it is, indeed, a Bloglines problem. I’m done with Bloglines – I switched to Google reader yesterday. If you’re a Bloglines user, please know that some blogs’ feeds (including mine) appear to either be hitting many hours late, or not at all.

It is indeed quite beautiful. And, I agree. There aren’t enough good things to say about Joan.

Your Adamas is lovely, Nora. Joan is an excellent yarn finder.

How lovely! My first thought was my father-in-law’s highest praise – “That looks like something you’d buy at a store.” It doesn’t, it looks like a gorgeous hand-knit, but I think you’ll get the sentiment.

Bloglines got a letter of wrath from me. Truly I don’t like to hate something as much as hate them, but I do and I let them know. Google Reader is so much better. Now if we can get our readers to change over.
LOVE the shawl. Look how far you’ve come as a knitter this year. You’ve accomplished SO much! Your first sweater and now fabulous and fine lace…YOU ROCK!

It is lovely. Well done, Nora!
Joan knows. It is not our place to question her. It is our place to do as we’re told and hang on.
I think the people behind bloglines gave up in the spring. Hopefully, others will walk away from them, too.

ps google reader is so much better. I’ve been with it for a year or more. The good thing is you can read blogs without them being automatically marked as read so you can go back later if you need to.
