Natterings.

Who knew that vests would be a controversial wardrobe item?  I guess you love ‘em or you hate ‘em.  I definitely prefer a cardigan-style vest.  The pullover style seems less versatile and forgiving.  I, like some of you, also rather dislike wearing a button-up/collared shirt.  They always come untucked and feel like they’re riding up and [...]

A Good InVestMent.

Maybe there really are no coincidences.
I’ve been thinking of knitting a vest for some time.  Vests could, possibly, wind up being my signature knitting gimmick.  I love wearing vests.  They look great.   They are less expensive and less time consuming to knit than sweaters.
I have had Talia queued up for a couple of weeks, ready to [...]

Weekends are for Knitting.

When I saw these mittens, I knew I had to knit them.  I haven’t seen the Twilight movie yet, but I have read all the books, being the mother of two in the target demographic.  Regardless of their link to popular culture, I love these mittens and can’t wait to have them on my cold hands!   I’m [...]

Recommended Reading.

In cruising the library, I stumbled upon a book I read some time ago, Queen Bee Moms and Kingpin Dads.  It’s the sort of book that might give you stomach cramps, but in the end, it’s comforting to know that someone is officially calling out these toxic personality types.

If you’re not familiar with the book, I’ll bet you’re [...]

Latest Trick

In my last post, I flashed a bit of yarn without explanation.
You guys love that stuff.

The yarn is Fleece Artist Sea Wool, in the Renaissance colorway.  The pattern is the Lace Ribbon Scarf, by Veronik Avery, from Knitty.
So far, I confer two thumbs up.
I’ll keep you posted.   The photo shows one (24-row) repeat.  I’ve got [...]

Sometimes I Knit.

I am loving the worsted Shetland Triangle.  The Ultra Alpaca and the Addis are one dreamy combination.  I’ll be sad when I’m done knitting this, so I’m actually taking breaks to prolong the fun.
Is there anything that looks weirder than unblocked lace?

Hey, I’m knitting an egg cozy!

I finished my Elizabeth Zimmerman Mitered Mittens .

I used [...]

Cold and Sunny.

We’ve had a break from the bitter cold, and that means a chance to get outdoors again.   I took a spin on my snow shoes at nearby Kletsch Park earlier today.  Here is what I saw.

Happy Sunday, all!

News Flash.

It’s still cold here.  Schools are closed for the second day in a row.
Funny how the kids can go off and spend the day at a friend’s house, or at the mall, but can’t go to school.  Could anyone explain that?  No, don’t try.
I’m working up a full-on knitting post in my mind, but that will [...]

This and That.

The other day I mentioned my frustration with the “weather as news” phenomenon that seems to pervade these days.  In case you’ve been under a rock (since even Charles Gibson mentioned it last night), it’s Really, Really Cold in some parts of the country, including mine.
The thing is, it’s January.  In Wisconsin.  Do we need extended [...]
