Natterings.

Who knew that vests would be a controversial wardrobe item?  I guess you love ‘em or you hate ‘em.  I definitely prefer a cardigan-style vest.  The pullover style seems less versatile and forgiving.  I, like some of you, also rather dislike wearing a button-up/collared shirt.  They always come untucked and feel like they’re riding up and around on me.  Plus they wrinkle, and I have a serious aversion to ironing.   I like wearing a vest with a long-sleeved t-shirt – which can be quite dressy, if the t-shirt is silk or a nicer cotton blend.  And I like my polar fleece vests with a turtleneck.

Sometimes a funny expression will stick itself in my head, and I’ll think about it in terms of a particular person or situation and start giggling when I shouldn’t.  The other day, someone who is generally very serious used the expression “have a cow,” which struck me so funny I couldn’t stop dwelling on it, and then I started thinking how funny it was applied to other serious people/situations.  As in “The judge is having a cow about counsel’s habitual ex parte communications,” or “The CFO is having a cow about this quarter’s numbers.”    And then I’d chortle to myself, making anyone near me think I might be off my meds.

Now you can wonder, too.

Is anyone watching Hell’s Kitchen this season?  We like to watch this show and Top Chef as a family.  I’m not such a fan of the latter, but I always like to see Gordon gag and curse, for some reason.   I’m wondering if anyone else is thinking this new bunch of contestants contains some real tools – like the food court cook.  What’s with that?

Here’s another winter shot – this one courtesy of my husband, who was snow shoeing avec camera at Doctor’s Park the other day, when it was particularly gray.  This is a path that leads down to Lake Michigan, which you can see through the trees.

  • That’s what you call a lake? Pfffft. :D

  • um, don’t you tuck your shirts into your underwear? Am I alone in this?

  • Beth has an interesting solution. :D

    Lovely photo!

  • Back in the last century before business casual peeped its darling little head over the horizon, I used to wear a suit and pantyhose every damned day. I tucked my blouse into said pantyhose to keep it tidy; worked great.

  • I am a big Hell’s Kitchen fan! I always find it amusing to how the chef’s react to Gordon. I too watch Top Chef. A more toned down version of Hell’s. LOL I agree you with that the new batch of chefs actually got something going on with their skills. What you think of Colleen?

  • I haven’t tucked in a shirt in years. Just saying.

  • I thought with the new business casual nonsense that being untucked was alright. Well, assuming it’s the sort of shirt that does not require tucking.

When is your Beth getting a blog? Do I really need to come over there?

Lovely photo. What a good husband you have.

I do love chef, but I’m not watching. I like Restaurant Nightmares more.

    xo

  • I’m with you on the cardi vests, and t-shirts or turtlenecks underneath. I’ve successfully avoided the other kind of shirts for years. Lovely photo!

  • oh I hate button up shirts too. I have a couple I wear under vests but wear the combination so rarely because I can’t find comfortable button up shirts. I will look for quality tops like you describe.

And I didn’t know it was ok to wear button up vests – I had a feeling they were considered nanna-clothing – but maybe not. I mean, I love them, but wondered if the world would laugh at me. I will reconsider this!

  • I can just see me tucking my button-up shirt into my thong. Don’t see how that will help at all. Hee. And I gave up pantyhose for lent (just an expression!) many years ago. Which reminds me, I have a drawer full of them. I could definitely use that drawer for something else now. All I use the pantyhose for now is for tying up tomato plants. :D

I own a couple button shirts, but they have the kind of waistline that is slightly fitted and flared, so no tucking is needed. But I almost never wear them. My reason is not that they need ironing, because these have bit of lycra in them for stretch and less wrinkling — but they show sweat too much! And I SWEAT.

And I like a good vest.

  • Tuck in a shirt? What is this? Does not compute, seriously. Next you’ll tell me you don’t wear flip-flops to work. That would just be weird.

  • I haven’t seen the new season of Hell’s Kitchen yet. I do enjoy that show though. He cracks me up when he gags. We also watch Top Chef too. I really like that one.
