A dose of random today.
I still cook. I just don’t cook with the thought that I’ll blog about it on Wednesdays! Not much creativity lately, though – just favorite, tried-and-true stuff. Comforting, familiar, and good for late February.
I still run. It has been a bit sporadic thanks to winter. The treadmill at the gym got me through the worst of the sub-arctic temperatures, and now outdoor running can be iffy depending on ice or serious melting. When the roads dry up more or less for good, I’ll start a new running ticker.
I always read. I just finished the third Blue Bloods novel and am furious that I have to wait until September for the next. I also read Krakauer’s Under the Banner of Heaven (finally). Wow. And I am just now reading The Self Esteem Trap by Polly Young-Eisendrath. You can get a complete feel for what this book is about if you follow the link, but essentially it’s about how today’s parents may be creating a generation of people who will be unable to exist as ordinary, hard-working adults who get along in society. This book makes me want to stand up and cheer. I’ll write more about it after I finish it.
I knit and knit. Nothing new happening there.
What are you up to these days?

and I still cook! In fact, since I was out of town for a few weeks for work, that was one of the things I missed the most. It was a regular frenzy this weekend–chicken and dumplings, lamb shanks, vegetable soup….all the good stuff.

That self esteem book looks good. I struggle with that with my husband – “good enough” is good enough. (Or, my favorite line from Mary Poppins: “Enough is as good as a feast.”)

Wasn’t Under the Banner of Heaven great? Scary, of course, but great.
I didn’t cook all last week because I was on vacation but I have been baking. And reading and knitting. This weekend I’ll be spinning. Yay!

I cook and knit too! I’m posting my favorite go-to pizza dough recipe for Cookie and as soon as I have enough time to take pictures, I’ll do some knitting progress stuff.

I have got to pay more attention to your reading. Of course, my reading time is almost non-existent these days, but I do so love it. Still knitting and cooking. I have used the slow-cooker quite a bit this winter. It is so helpful. And, of course, I walk every blessed morning in the dark with the dog. There have been several days that were too dangerous, but for the most part we’ve been doing pretty well.

I just finished The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb. Other than that, I am coming out of a little blogging and knitting slump.

Oh, Cookie–I’m dying laughing here. What the heck would I blog ABOUT? Nora–step in and help me out.

I made Cookie’s banana bread recipe last Sunday. Yum. I’m still reading the Kim Harrison vamp/witch books and I’m on the last available paperback.
I’m hoping for good travel weather tomorrow but I may have to fudge a bit to get it.

i wish you would blog about what you cook more. I miss those posts.
I’m spending a lot of my time staring at a computer screen at work and not really producing much. Got a case of the blahs.

I really enjoyed Under the Banner Of Heaven as well. I am reading Better by Atul Gawande now. He is a surgeon and it is about the drive to be better, to be perfect and how there really is no room for mistakes in surgery because the mistake may cost a life. It is pretty good. It would probably be good to read along side your self esteem book.
No cooking now. The stove/oven/microwave (a combo unit circa 1986) is broken. Lots of take out happening here.

I’m just knitting and crocheting and herding dogs over here. No reading lately, but that Self Esteem book sounds good.

I am quite interested to read your thoughts on the self-esteem book.
Me? A bit of knitting. Staring at the wheel with longing. Some gentle back exercises. Trying to find the balance between the right amount of exercise and rest, or if that is even possible for me to find right now.
