Lakewatch.

This is the Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Museum of Art, designed by Santiago Calatrava.   The “wings” are generally open when the weather isn’t terribly windy.  They close and open each day at noon,  just for grins.   You can see what it looks like inside here.
The coolest thing?  This is the view from my office [...]

Flying High.

What are these people looking at?

See that little dot in the clouds?
Wait, let me help.

Now do you see it?  Not a gull, after all.  It’s an F-16, courtesy of the Milwaukee Air and Water Show.  We had all kinds of excitement here over the weekend, with the Air Force Thunderbirds blasting overhead on and off.  [...]

Lakewatch* Returns.

Here are some shots from a walk to Big Bay Park the other day.  Not shown:  The sound of the surf, and the black lab obligingly playing fetch in the frigid Lake Michigan water.  Yikes!!
The water was really that brown near the shore.  Things get churned up in the spring.
Once again, the photo uploader exercises wildly erratic [...]

Lakewatch Returns.

But only because I snagged some photos last weekend before the storms came.  They relented for a while midweek but returned yesterday, with conviction.  I’m worried for my friends with flooding and sewer backup issues.  I’m certain this round of insult to injury didn’t help.
These shots are from a lookout which is about a ten minute walk from my house.  [...]

It’s Raining.

And yesterday, it was fixin’ to rain, so I couldn’t get the Lakewatch photos I had hoped for.
I do have this, though.

Saved from my last photographic excursion.  Sailboats inside the breakwater, downtown Milwaukee lakefront.
In pondering my post for today, I also ran across this photographic walking tour of our lakefront – photos of some things [...]

Lakewatch, Deluxe Edition.

Today, for your viewing and educational pleasure, I bring you the signature sights of Milwaukee’s downtown lakefront.  In the photo above, we’re looking southeast toward the 2001 addition to the Milwaukee Art Museum, designed by Santiago Calatrava.  In the foreground, you can see some of the museum grounds, and as you look off beyond the art [...]

Lakewatch, Spring Morning Edition.

Here’s the view from nearby Atwater Park – another steep bluff leading down to beach front.  It was even more lovely in person, with the sun warming the morning air and lots of birds in attendance.  I could have stayed all day.
TGIF – Have a great day, everyone!

Lakewatch: Spring Sneaks In.

In Wisconsin, spring doesn’t exactly “spring.”  It creeps and crawls, and retreats, and sometimes hides in the corner in a fetal position.  Starting in February, once in a while it bursts out in a fit of glory.  We’ll often see a thaw and a day or so of unseasonal weather that has everyone in short [...]

Lakewatch: Spring Storms

This lakewatch shot was taken at a low spot along Lincoln Memorial Drive, which is a lakefront causeway that exists only because tons and tons of fill were brought in years ago to create a passable area at the bottom of the bluff.  This photo is more tree than lake, but something about that big tree waiting [...]

Lakewatch Friday – I wonder if I can get yarn in this color blue?

You might recall that last weekend we had some lovely weather here on the shores of Lake Michigan, and I had the presence of mind to get some shots of the lake unsullied by the disgusting rains and winds we have had the past few days.  Pictured is a view of the lake from the [...]
